Modern Warfare 3 Trailer Analysis

Following a run of leaked teasers, Activison has given us the first officially released trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. I’m sure all of you have seen it by now, but you may not have stopped to wonder what’s really going on in this trailer. Let’s take a look.

The brief trailer shows us a glimpse of combat across several of the most powerful Western nations, America, England, France, and Germany, telling us that this conflict takes place on a very large, if not global scale. We are given no time to catch our breath as it teases the incredible action setpieces the franchise is known for.

As the trailer passes the half-way point, we hear a voice chime in with the words “It doesn’t take the most powerful nations on Earth to create the next global conflict. Just the will of a single man.” Could this be the voice of Vladimir Makarov, who was still left alive at the end of Modern Warfare 2? The second line in this quote seems to point to this as a likely possibility, given Makarov’s status as the leader of an Ultranationalist terrorist cell.

The dialogue is followed by more clips of action before cutting to the abbreviation “WW3,” indiciating that the conflict being fought in the game is none other than a third World War. The text then shifts to say “MW3,” followed by the materialization of the Call of Duty logo above it. One interesting piece of information to take away from this point in the trailer is the fact that the game is being co-developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games.

At this point, you probably couldn’t care less about anything other than the fact that the game is releasing on November 8th for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
